Information
What Is the Muadalah Route?
Start preparing for Cairo by understanding how your educational background fits the intended route.
Equivalence of pesantren and non-Al-Azhar qualifications
Muadalah is the review and equivalence process for prior educational qualifications to be recognized by the relevant Al-Azhar authorities in Cairo for the intended study route. Documents, educational history and required curriculum or subjects are considered.
Diplomas from Indonesian pesantren or other non-Al-Azhar institutions must first be checked. Submitting an application is distinct from receiving an equivalence decision or university admission.
Bridging for language and academic readiness
Bridging addresses preparation needs before the next academic stage. It may include nahw (grammar), sarf (morphology), qira’ah (reading) and understanding Arabic texts. Classes, placement and examinations depend on the route and the applicant’s assessment.
Program focus: self-funded study
Applicants or their families plan the costs of assistance, language preparation, documents, travel and living expenses. This program does not provide a scholarship.
Muadalah describes qualification equivalence; self-funded describes financing. Equivalence and language stages may also form part of programs such as Markaz Tathwir/Tatwir under their admission rules. Access and facilities depend on the specific package.

How Guidance Helps Applicants and Families
Identify document needs early
An initial review helps identify missing records, inconsistent names and questions for your school or pesantren. Organize these tasks before arranging translations or document authentication.
Plan stages and a realistic budget
Distinguish service registration, diploma review, language or examinations, further documents and travel preparation. Families can review the needs of each stage before agreeing to payments.
Keep communication and follow-up clear
Use your TENAFL account to view available programs and transactions. Follow the official channel provided for document instructions and next steps, and keep the service summary and review notes.
Language classes, translation, authentication, visas, airport reception and housing are included only when specified in the agreed package. Check each service against its published scope.
Information
Eligibility for Self-Funded Muadalah Registration
Initial screening helps determine program suitability. Joining a TENAFL service and receiving university admission are separate decisions.
Educational background and diploma eligibility
Applicants need a documented secondary-education history, such as Madrasah Aliyah, pesantren, Pendidikan Diniyah Formal Ulya, Satuan Pendidikan Muadalah or another institution whose qualification can be reviewed for the intended route.
SMA graduates and other non-Al-Azhar applicants should provide school information and academic records. A school name alone does not establish equivalence; diploma type, institutional status and the destination requirements are relevant.
Arabic readiness and preparation
Prepare basic Arabic reading, nahw and sarf skills, and be willing to complete any required placement, bridging or equivalence examination. Explain your starting level during consultation so preparation needs can be assessed.
Identity, age and graduation year
Use consistent names, date of birth, nationality and education details. State your age and diploma year so they can be checked against the intended route and admission period. Requirements from an older announcement may not apply to your application.
Funding and commitment to the process
Prepare a budget, active contact details, documents and time for required stages. Applicants below adulthood need parental or guardian consent. Discuss the financial commitment with your family before choosing a package.
Information
Documents to Prepare
Prepare the following checklist for the program’s initial review. Academic documents and travel documents may have different submission deadlines. Tell the team if your final diploma or passport is still pending.
| Document | What to prepare | Key check |
|---|---|---|
| Online registration form | Complete your account and the form or data requested in the official program flow. | Use an active email and WhatsApp number; match your legal name. |
| Birth certificate and Family Card (KK) | Full, legible color scans. | Check the name, place and date of birth. |
| Applicant and parent/guardian identity cards (KTP) | Scans of the applicant’s and parent’s or guardian’s identification. | Ask which substitute is accepted if the applicant has no KTP yet. |
| Red-background portrait photo | A recent photo for the initial program documents. | Follow size and quantity instructions; a later institution may require a different background. |
| Diploma and academic transcript | Scans of academic records; prepare certified copies and originals when requested. | Ask whether an SKL completion letter is accepted temporarily; it does not automatically replace the final diploma. |
| School or pesantren recommendation | Prepare it for a review or application that requires one. | Request it from the original institution with accurate applicant details. |
| Valid passport | A scan of the identity page and the original when required. | Validity must satisfy the relevant application and travel requirements. |
Further documents after the initial review
Health certificates, police clearance (SKCK), institutional recommendations, proof of school status, parental or guardian consent, translations, authentication and official registration forms or numbers may be required later. Collection instructions should identify the purpose and receiving institution.
Preparing and submitting your documents
Keep clear, complete scans, name files by document type and check spelling across records. Use the feature or official channel specified by the team. Submit originals only according to confirmed instructions; personal records should not be posted in public comments.
Information
Main Equivalence and University Application Stages
Language preparation and document work may overlap. The individual sequence follows the review results and instructions from the responsible authorities.
1. Audit and document eligibility review
Prepare the diploma, transcript, identity records and school or pesantren recommendation. The initial review maps route suitability, missing documents and corrections. Keep the review results for the next stage.
2. Authentication and translation for the receiving institution
Prepare authentication through the issuing institution and the authorities requested, including Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Egyptian Embassy when applicable. Use sworn translation where required. The sequence depends on the document and its recipient.
3. Submit the equivalence application to Al-Azhar authorities
Prepared records support the Muadalah request to the authorized Al-Azhar unit. If the route requires a request letter to Masyikhoh Al-Azhar, include it in that submission. An acknowledgement of receipt is distinct from the final equivalence decision.
4. Tahdid Mustawa and bridging preparation
Tahdid Mustawa assesses Arabic proficiency. Applicants complete Daurah Lughah, grammar and reading preparation, Ta’hily or a Muadalah examination when required. Assessment results and route rules determine the levels and stages to complete.
5. Faculty application once requirements are met
The university application proceeds when documentation, equivalence and academic conditions meet the applicable requirements. Direct faculty registration is possible only when the responsible authority confirms eligibility. Self-funded status does not waive examinations or guarantee admission.
6. Travel administration and re-registration
Follow visa, travel, accommodation and re-registration instructions for your admission status. Check departure and arrival assistance against the package scope. Confirm readiness before committing to travel arrangements.

Frequently asked questions
Self-Funded Muadalah FAQs
Is this a scholarship program?
This page covers self-funded, non-scholarship study. Applicants or their families budget for services, processing, travel and study as needed. Muadalah refers to qualification equivalence, not a scholarship.
Can pesantren or SMA graduates apply?
Education and diplomas must be reviewed for the intended route. A pesantren, MA, PDF Ulya or other institution’s name alone does not establish equivalence. Provide school details and academic records for initial consultation.
How does Muadalah relate to Markaz Tathwir?
Equivalence and language preparation may form part of admission programs through Markaz Tathwir/Tatwir. Stages and facilities follow the selected program’s rules. Mentioning it does not mean TENAFL issues academic decisions or every package has identical access.
Can I enter a faculty without a language test?
Direct faculty registration is possible only when the authority confirms that all requirements are met. Complete Tahdid Mustawa, language preparation or equivalence examinations whenever required.
What if my passport or final diploma is not ready?
Explain this during consultation. The team can outline preparation that may begin and outstanding documents. Acceptance of an SKL or temporary record must be confirmed; a valid passport is still required at the relevant stage.
Does the photo need a red background?
Prepare a red-background photo for this program’s initial documents. Follow the collection instructions for size and quantity. A different background may be required by a receiving institution at a later stage.
Where can I see the total cost and packages?
Register or sign in to the participant dashboard and open Program for packages, detailed fees and current estimates. Total needs depend on coverage, language or tests, documents, travel and living costs. Check what is included and paid separately before completing a transaction.
How long does it take, and when is departure?
The latest schedule and estimates are in Program in the participant dashboard after registration or sign-in. Timing depends on documents, language readiness, official schedules and individual administration. An intake target is not a confirmed departure date.
How can parents follow progress?
Keep the service summary, transaction reference and responsible team’s contact. Review transactions through the participant account and use the official communication channel under the participant’s consent and privacy terms.
